When a pre-order campaign takes a partial payment (deposit), the customer's card is vaulted at checkout and the remaining balance is charged automatically on its due date. This relies on Shopify payment mandates, which only some payment gateways support.
If your store's active gateway is not on this list, deposit campaigns cannot collect the balance automatically. Use a supported gateway, or sell those products as full payment at checkout instead.
Full-payment pre-orders (the whole amount charged at checkout) work on any gateway. This requirement applies to deposits only.
Some accelerated and alternative checkout methods can't be used to buy pre-order products. The storefront widget hides them automatically on pre-order products, so customers won't hit a dead end.
Customers complete pre-orders with a standard card checkout on a supported gateway. Regular discount codes work, except "Buy X get Y" codes, which Shopify doesn't support on pre-orders.
Add the back-in-stock signup form to a product through the theme editor (the app embed handles the storefront). When a customer signs up on an out-of-stock product and inventory returns, they're emailed automatically.
Failed charges are retried automatically on the schedule you set under Settings > Deposit balance collection. After the final attempt, the app either emails the customer a link to complete payment, or cancels and refunds the deposit, depending on your setting. When the customer pays through the emailed link, the app detects the payment within about a day, marks the order paid, and releases its fulfillment hold automatically.
Shopify doesn't enforce non-refundable deposits. State your policy in your store terms, and use the "email a payment link" failure action rather than the automatic cancel-and- refund action.
Either a set number of days after checkout, or the moment you fulfill the order, depending on how each campaign is configured.
No. The bulk action in Shopify's order list only marks orders as paid; it does not charge the customer's saved card, and it can prevent the balance from being collected later. Let the app charge balances automatically, use "Charge balance now" on the order page here, or use "Collect payment" on the individual order in the Shopify admin.
